There's Always Another Plan

Steve Clarson asked if there was a plan 19? My answer was, "Of course." So without further ado, here it is. It takes plan 17 and expands it by moving Burnside Wharf into my home office. Turns out that my home office has two doors into it due to an earlier basement remodeling. Right now the former closet door is closed off. But it could be opened and a thin section of  benchwork run-through it to allow Burnsides Wharf to be in my home office. I would have to do some reconfiguration of the desk and wall hangings in the office, but it could fit. In this version, I would no longer use the main door to the home office. Instead I would place the couch where it normally would open. Not ideal, but it would keep the other door more open.

This plan could be built in stages. First the v17 peninsula and Falmouth could be built. When it is ready, I would remove the existing Falmouth  and connect the new track under the stairs. Once that is all operational, the Burnside Wharf expansion could happen into the office.  If I still want to keep building on this layout, I could rebuild the Potomac Creek bridge to make it full scale size. By then, I'd be ready for the old age home.

Anyway, so here it is. The ultimate expression of what happens when Alicia says, "Do what you want, I never go down there anyway." Other than tunneling into my neighbor's basement, this is about as far as the layout could go. And don't mention double deck....

    I never envisioned your office going away or having the layout in there...but this track plan has everything. I can't wait to see Version 20.

  2. You've got a ton more space leftover after this plan... Alexandria car float could go right at the bottom of the stairs to the left of the main room door.... and over your workbench you could add a spur to another QM camp...

    1. You had to bring up the Alexandria car float, didn't you. Yes, I have drawn several plans with it. Rejected all of them due to lack of space.

  3. Bernie,
    I don't know you very well (except for your numerous articles) but it seems to me that your interests and focus change every so often. I still remember your Tennessee Pass layout, and your N trak modules. If you take up your entire basement with this layout, will you be effectively cutting off space and options for alternate ideas? Do you think this layout will keep you satisfied for another 3-5 years of construction, or are you ready to move on to the "next one?"

    1. Yes, I like new projects, but I am looking for what others think. I wouldn't expect anyone to get into my head and try to figure out what I want. I like track planning and getting feedback on different ideas is always useful to me.

    2. You bet, Track planning is almost a hobby inside a hobby. I get great satisfaction in designing a well thought out track plan,
      Anyway here is what I think, of version 19.
      No duck under, thats great.
      Wharf areas are separated, greater impact.
      But I would delete the Stoneman's Station and Peninsula.
      Replace it with a little S curve, just a little bump, to give the visual impact without sacrificing people space, future proofing for moving things around etc, without being ontop of things.

  4. For some reason Plan 17 never looked good to me and I think it was the peninsula with Stoneman's Station. It just looks out of place with what is essentially around the walls everywhere else.
