A Video Summary of the Port Layout

A video summary of the Port of Los Angeles layout.  I plan to shoot some fresh clips later, but for now this is a quick  summary of the prototype location, photos of the construction, and some video clips of the completed portions of the layout.

  1. Excellent video of the Port of LA. Very impressive modeling. It also is a nice ad for your chain link fencing. I would slow down the slide show a bit. There is too much to see that is missed with such a quick pace. Thank you.

  3. Terrific prototype! Terrific modeling! Another winner from an A+ master ... well done Mr. Kempinski! Thanks for sharing it with us as it is most inspirational. Also clearly demonstrates how much prototypical operation can be presented in a reasonable amount of space.

  4. Aside from the wonderful and detailed modeling, what struck me was how “professional” –for lack of a better term- this video was. Much like DCC and other technological marvels, this video demonstrates how much the hobby continues to evolve. As someone who has about half of the old Allen Keller videos on hand, most in VHS form but a few on CD which were produced at the end of the series, the ability of a modeler to make these kinds of videos in a short amount of time is something we now take for granted on Youtube but even back in the early 1990s it was really difficult to do, if not impossible. You needed the camera crew from the local TV station. Now just access to software and a good camera if not a phone. But of course you still need amazing modeling. Another great job by BK.

Maybe another Civil War video to follow?

For the record I was also really struck by how different PoLA looks with deck of the ship covered with containers as opposed to windmill blades. The ability to change loads makes this type of layout really intriguing from an operations standpoint.

    1. I have plans for a new ACW video, but I need to do some work before I can get on it. In the meantime, I need to wrap up PoLA so I can get cracking on Aquia Landing. I want to have both operational by April 2018.

  5. I caught this on YouTube and wanted to let you know how nice it is to see a layout like this. I thought I was the only one with the mindset to be honest. I would love to see an aerial shot of the layout if you had one, Curious how big this is. Or even a layout to see what you picked to model out of the ports.

    Thanks again and Awesome work

    Thanks,
    Brad

    1. Brad,
If you look at other pages on this blog you can learn more about the layout including its design, size and construction. It will be featured in my next book from Kalmbach Publishing called, "Waterfront Terminals and Operations."
